OpenAI's cloud-based coding agent "Codex" is moving into the mainstream, Axios reported on June 25. According to a joint report by OpenAI and Columbia, Duke and the University of Pennsylvania, Codex usage among active users at external organizations has climbed from near 0% in August 2025 to about 17% now.
