Google is trialing a new verification method in its reCAPTCHA bot-detection service that uses a device camera to confirm a person's hand movements. Instead of the familiar "select the images that contain an object" CAPTCHA, users perform a simple gesture such as waving in front of the camera, and a short video clip is analyzed to confirm liveness. The feature is being tested with a subset of users as part of reCAPTCHA Enterprise / Google Cloud Fraud Defense, as reported by Biometric Update and Indian Express.
