On June 24, 2026, OpenAI said it had begun lab testing engineering samples of Jalapeño, its first in-house AI chip, co-developed with Broadcom. It is the first generation of the "Intelligence Processor" family, designed specifically for large language model (LLM) inference, with OpenAI leading the core design and Broadcom contributing expertise such as connectivity.
