OpenAI and Broadcom Reveal First In-House AI Inference Chip 'Jalapeño'

On June 24, 2026, OpenAI unveiled Jalapeño, its first custom-designed AI chip, developed jointly with semiconductor giant Broadcom. Built as an ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) optimized for large language model (LLM) inference, it is intended to power ChatGPT, Codex, the OpenAI API, and future agentic products.
