More than 300 bans or moratoriums on data center development have been enacted by U.S. state and local governments since 2023, with over 75 more under consideration, according to new research. The measures are estimated to cover more than 80,000 square miles and over 20 million residents, highlighting how local opposition has become a new bottleneck for the infrastructure underpinning the AI boom.
