Hangzhou-based AI lab DeepSeek has closed its first external funding round, raising more than 5 billion yuan (over $7.4 billion) at a post-money valuation exceeding $50 billion. Most of the capital flowed through a limited partnership controlled by founder and CEO Liang Wenfeng, an unusual structure that grants investors no voting rights and preserves the founder's control of the company.
