Ford Motor brought back veteran engineers, retrained younger staff and reprogrammed AI inspection tools to fix stubborn quality problems, and as a result topped mainstream brands in the 2026 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, according to reports. Per Bloomberg, the company has hired 350 experienced "gray beard" engineers over the past three years, many of them former employees or staff from suppliers who returned to the floor after retiring. Drawing on years of judgment, they adjusted and redesigned AI tools that weren't delivering enough accuracy, and trained younger workers (Bloomberg).
