Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has raised more than 5 billion yuan (about $7.4 billion) in its first external funding round, reaching a post-money valuation above $50 billion to become China's most valuable independent AI company. The trigger was the performance of Anthropic's frontier model Claude Mythos Preview, which reportedly stunned founder and CEO Liang Wenfeng and convinced him that a far larger war chest was needed to keep the lab competitive.
