Coinbase and AWS have integrated the AI payment protocol "x402," allowing websites and APIs running on Amazon CloudFront and AWS WAF to accept payments from AI agents. The "toggle-on" solution can be enabled from existing AWS configurations, letting an AI agent receive an HTTP 402 Payment Required response, make a micropayment in stablecoins such as USDC, and obtain content or an API response after verification. In their official blog, the two companies describe it as a way for publishers to accept agents as customers.
