Shutterstock Tried In-House AI Before OpenAI Tie-Up

Stock-image giant Shutterstock had explored building generative AI on its own terms before committing to a full-scale partnership with OpenAI, a path that is drawing renewed attention. The company formally released its "Shutterstock AI Image Generator" (previously Shutterstock Generate) on January 25, 2023, integrating text-to-image generation built on OpenAI's DALL·E directly into its platform. It initially used DALL·E 2 and later upgraded to a DALL·E 3-based version.
