US Commerce Dept. Orders Anthropic to Cut Foreign-National Access to Fable 5, Mythos 5

On June 12, 2026, the U.S. Commerce Department issued an export control directive ordering Anthropic to halt access to its latest AI models, Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5, for foreign nationals. Because identifying users by nationality proved difficult, Anthropic immediately disabled both models for all users worldwide.
